To assist Breastfeeding Counselors in their efforts to provide breastfeeding information and support, Breastfeeding USA recommends the following print resources:

  • Breastfeeding Answers Made Simple: A Guide for Helping Mothers, Nancy Mohrbacher IBCLC, FILCA, Hale Publishing, LP; (2010). Active BCs have full-text online access to BAMS through our training site. If you aren't enrolled in the BAMS Module on the training site, contact the Library Manager.
  • Counseling the Nursing Mother: A Lactation Consultant's Guide, Fifth Edition, Jones & Bartlett Publishers; 5th edition (2010). Active BCs have full-text online access to CtNM through our training site. If you aren't enrolled in Module 1 of the comprehensive course on the training site, contact the Library Manager.
  • Medications and Mothers Milk: A Manual of Lactational Pharmacology, Thomas W. Hale, PhD, Hale Publishing, LP; 15th edition (2012)

Breastfeeding Counselors are also encouraged to use information in articles on the Breastfeeding Information page of the website. Information can also be found in articles from back issues of Breastfeeding USA Horizons (archived in the For Members section of the website). Breastfeeding Counselors may also consult and share references from other up-to-date, evidence-based, third-party websites and print resources, and current available print sources.
