A Committee Chair

June 2014

  • Is appointed by the Board of Directors
  • Plans and directs the operations of a Breastfeeding USA Committee
  • Forms workgroups as needed
  • Appoints, trains and inspires the Workgroup Managers
  • Reports directly to the Board of Directors
  • Communicates with other Committee Chairs in the Roundtable
  • Monitors progress of Strategic Plan goals and objectives
  • Coordinates and maintains frequent communication between the managers within their respective committee via organizational committee email list

Job Responsibilities and Authority:

  • Communicates with other committee chairs in the Breastfeeding USA Roundtable
  • Reports progress, issues, and statistics at the organizational level in the Roundtable
  • Passes information regarding policy and procedures from the Roundtable to the Workgroup Managers
  • Evaluates and maintains Committee policies and procedures as needed for the Policy Manual. Submits change recommendations to the Board
  • Financial reporting includes development of annual committee budget and review and approval of committee expenses
  • Reports to the Board on the progress of strategic plan action items, committee accomplishments and challenges on a quarterly basis
  • Has the authority to remove managers who are found to not meet the basic requirements of the volunteer position or for cause, through consultation with the chair of Volunteer Support and Ethics Advisor

Time Commitment:

  • Varies according to Committee needs. 5-20 hours per week

A Workgroup Manager

  • Plans and directs the operations of a Breastfeeding USA Workgroup
  • Coordinates, trains and inspires the volunteer personnel
  • Reports directly to the Committee Chair
  • Communicates with other Managers in Managers Workgroup list
  • Monitors progress of Strategic Plan goals and objectives as they pertain to the Workgroup
  • Monitors the workgroup budget and reimbursement of expenses

Job Responsibilities and Authority:

  • Determines staffing requirements and recruits volunteers or submits staffing requests to Committee Chair
  • Is responsible for communicating with other workgroup managers in the Managers’ Workgroup
  • Orients new volunteers to the Workgroup
  • Supervises Workgroup volunteers according to organizational policies
  • Has the authority to remove volunteers in accordance with the *Volunteer Removal Procedure, who are found to not meet the basic requirements of the volunteer position or for cause, through consultation with her Committee Chair and the Manager of Volunteer Support
  • Sets and reviews Workgroup goals and objectives in collaboration with Chair
  • Facilitates project timelines and volunteer goals
  • Delegates tasks and responsibilities to volunteers
  • Monitors and assists volunteers with work progress
  • Monitors Workgroup practices for compliance with policies and procedures. Submits change recommendations to the Committee Chair
  • Reports to Chair on the progress of strategic action items, Workgroup accomplishments, problems, challenges and staffing needs and changes on a quarterly basis
  • Allocates use of available resources and budgeted funds
  • Submits all authorized expenses to Chair for approval
